Both the Ta'an Kwach'an Council and Kwanlin Dun First Nation opposed development.
A proposed gravel quarry in Whitehorse has been rejected by City Council.
Doug Gonder, owner of Norcope Construction wanted to develop a quarry near the intersection of the Alaska Highway and Robert Service Way, yet area First Nations were opposed.
The Ta'an Kwach'an Council and the Kwanlin Dun First Nation say the quarry would be too close to land for residential development, wanting a 300-meter buffer enforced.
As well the First Nations wrote a letter to the City against them creating a bylaw to amend the Official Community Plan to accommodate the quarry.
