WGH is listening to proposals for its non-urgent testing.
The Yukon Hospital Corporation says it is reviewing the future of its non-urgent microbiology testing at the Whitehorse Hospital, as the current contract is set to expire. The Yukon Employees Union asserts that the hospital wants to outsource testing to St. Paul's hospital in Vancouver as soon as this fall. Cameron Heke (heck) a spokesperson with the hospital corporation says there is a request for proposals on the microbiology testing services, what he says is approximately 1500 samples a year. He confirms that five companies have submitted bids for the contract, with St. Paul's being the lead. Yet Heck dismisses the Union's notion that the possible outsourcing has to do with jobs, but rather a decision will be based on patient care. Heck spoke with reporter Dan Jones about the microbiology testing situation
