Acting Chief Coroner Warns of Fentanyl Dangers

Acting Chief Coroners says zero confirmed deaths so far in 2017, but expect this to change.

Yukon's Acting Chief Coroner is again warning of the dangers of fentanyl.

Heather Jones says the opioid is killing Yukoners.

She admits that this year there have been no confirmed cases of fentanyl related deaths, but she anticipates that to change as there is a four-to-six month wait for toxicology results.

Jones says roughly five percent of the cases the Coroner's office deals with, have fentanyl associated.

In 2016, there have been five documented fentanyl related deaths in the territory.
