The reduction from 50km/h to 30km/h passed its third reading for the amendment to the traffic bylaw at the October 10 council meeting.

The Whitehorse City council amidst criticism’s, has implemented the speed reduction change for Chilkoot Way.
Chilkoot way which connects Two Mile Hill and Quartz Road, became a matter of discussion when the city's newest bike lane at the Chilkoot Greenway, was created.
The reduction from 50km/h to 30km/h passed its third reading for the amendment to the traffic bylaw at the October 10 council meeting.
Earlier, the city of Whitehorse received a petition from Diana Rothgeb, the organizer of an online petition calling for the reconsideration of the city’s intended bike lane addition and speed reduction. She said the online petition was created after a near collision on Chilkoot Way following the installation of the bike lanes. She said that she encountered another driver who was apparently confused about the new road configuration travelling towards her in the same lane.
Reacting to an online publication, 63 years old Whitehorse resident Greg Storey says the Chilkoot Way project, is the dumbest government project witnessed during his 63 years on earth.
City of Whitehorse Mayor Laura Cabott said while she's sympathetic to complaints from residents, the bike lane and speed reduction has come to stay. She also said while it may appear new to the city of Whitehorse and its residents, what’s been done on Chilkoot Way is happening all over the country, and has happened in Europe for several years.
