CHON-FM Indigenous Radio, a not-for-profit society founded in 1984, is seeking a qualified Finance Manager.
Reporting to the General Manager, the Finance Manager is responsible for all aspects of accounting and financial reporting of the community radio station.
A successful Finance Manager is a team player who can work closely with the CHON-FM team supporting the common goal of “Maintaining the Indigenous Voice in the Yukon”. Important personal qualities essential to this role include patience, organization, communication, reliability, confidentiality and strategic thinking.
Required Experience, Education and Knowledge:
- A diploma in Accounting, Business Administration or equivalent experience in Finance;
- Demonstrated experience as Finance Manager, especially in small business, non-profit sector;
- Demonstrated understanding and application of financial and accounting principles, relevant applicable laws and best practices;
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of statutory filings;
- Demonstrated experience in preparation of financial reports to: Management, Board and Funding Agencies;
- Experience in training and mentoring support staff.
- Ability to learn new processes and initiate self -learning, as the need arises
Additional areas of knowledge and skill required for this position:
- Working knowledge of software tools such as Sage, Excel, Word, Outlook
- Knowledge of advertising or radio culture;
- Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity
Compensation:$ 35-40/hour depending on qualifications and experience
Job Description
Primary Duties:
- Day-to-day bookkeeping in Sage 50 software.
- Process bi-weekly payroll
- Prepare and efile- Government remittances (payroll, GST)
- Generate Sales invoices from Summit software- data enter in Sage 50 and send to customers
- Data enter accounts payable, prepare payments for authorization and mail out to vendors
- Follow up on accounts receivable
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
- Prepare monthly financial reports for General Manager
- Prepare and present financial reports to Board of Directors (quarterly)
- Assist Sales department with Advertising contracts- enter contracts into Summit radio production program.
- Reconcile advertising logs in Summit software weekly to ads aired.
- Prepare funding reports per schedule provided by Funders (ie. Heritage Canada, YTG, etc.)
- Prepare SOCAN annual report
- Draft annual budget
- Draft funding applications
- Prepare financial information for year end audit- reconciling all balances, preparing working papers and draft financial statements.
- Assisting General Manager, Sales Manager and Board as requested.
- Other duties that may arise
