Selkirk First Nation, Kluane First Nation, Champagne and Aishihik First Nations and NNDDC recipients of Community Development Fund

    The Champagne and Aishihik First Nations was awarded significant funds for several projects this year

    The Yukon Government has awarded twenty projects over $518,000 from the Community Development Fund.

    The Yukon Government has awarded twenty projects over $518,000 from the Community Development Fund.  The projects supported by the fund focus on community planning, mental health, and sport and recreation.    Some of the recipients include the Fireweed Community Market Society, the Village of Carmacks, the Champagne and Aishihik First Nation, Na-Cho Nyak Dun Development Corporation, Yukon Curling Association and Inclusion Yukon.  
     

    The Community Development Fund provides funding for projects, events and initiatives that provide long term, sustainable economic and social benefits for Yukon communities. 

    Na-Cho Nyäk Dun Development Corporation was awarded $12,000 to produce pom-poms for Team Yukon’s 2020 Arctic Winter Games uniform.  It is a collaborative sewing project that supports local Yukon trappers, raises awareness of the fur industry and highlights community participation in developing team spirit and fur sewing skills.

    Selkirk First Nation was awarded $14,000 to design and install cultural-specific welcome signs marking the entrances to Pelly Crossing, highlighting the art, colours, language and message of the Selkirk people.  The signs welcome visitors and advise them that they are entering the traditional territory of the Selkirk People.

    Champagne and Aishihik First Nations was awarded $20,000 to develop the dän k’e Kendan (Book of Values) framework to provide guidance to elected officials and $72,000 to develop a citizen database4 detailing human resources, business and cultural inventory, including training and education requirements.  The database will help match citizens with employment and business opportunities at the prospective Mat’atana Resort.

    The Kluane First Nation was awarded $18,750 to hire a team of professionals to compile an illustrated manuscript based on Kluane First Nation recorded oral histories and images, community archival records and outside sources spanning 40 years.
