Zero Waste Yukon is starting a petition on the matter this Saturday, also coinciding with their annual community garage sale.

Zero Waste Yukon is petitioning the Yukon Government to implement a fee on single-use bags in Yukon.

Zero Waste Yukon is hosting an annual Indoor Community Garage Sale this upcoming Saturday coinciding with the kickoff of the petition, which will be available to sign at Raven Recycling, Yukon Conservation Society Riverside among other locations after the event.

Zero Waste Yukon Program Coordinator Ira Webb is hoping the initiative will send a strong message to the Yukon Government, and Webb says the territorial government needs to do more to eliminate more disposable waste in the territory.

The Indoor Community Garage Sale will be at a new location this year at the Yukon Convention Centre on Saturday from 10am to 2pm.

Webb says Yukoners are encouraged to walk, bike or take public transit to the garage sale and to bring their own reusable bags as none will be provided at the event.
