Yukon College Announces New Sexualized Violence Prevention and Response Policy

    The release of the new policy was announced on Wednesday.

    Yukon College is creating a new Sexualized Violence Prevention and Response policy.

    The new policy takes a trauma-informed and coordinated approach and commits the college to helping those respond and address to closure around violence.

    The policy also recognizes differences in inherent power imbalances in the educational space, and the policy articulates Yukon College's responsibility to help those impacted by sexualized violence and make appropriate programs and resources available for victims.

    The 18-page document highlights the purpose of the policy, definitions of terms around sexualized violence such as consent, resources for victims, what action to take for people who have been subject to sexualized violence and what a formal investigations looks like if they're self-reported or not.

    Specific resources for those who've suffered sexualized or violence crime people can access the victim services phone line, which can be reached toll-free for Yukoners at 1-800-661-0408, ext. 8500

    On-campus supports includes Campus Housing or Human Resources at the college campus which is open Monday to Friday from 8:30-4:30 pm.
