Telegraph Creek Evacuation Notice to be Lifted November 15th

The fire decimated much of the Telegraph Creek area located in Tahltan First Nation traditional territory.

Tahltan Recovery Manager Feddie Louise says rebuilding in the community has been going on for months.

Tahltan Emergency Operations Centre (TEOC)  Director and Recover Manager Feddie Louise says the evacuation notice for Telegraph Creek Evacuees will be lifted Nov. 15.

The TEOC hopes to have most returnees back in the community by December 20th.

Louise says rebuilding has been going on for months and says support will be given when evacuees start returning home.

"We have spent the last few month recovering Telegraph Creek so that people can move back and live there."

Louise says hydro poles for power have yet to be put in for the temporary modular units that have been built.

If anyone has questions about the lifted evacuation order, residents can call the Emergency Operations Centre at 250-775-5050.

Evacuees had to flee the 120,000 hectare blaze in August after fires decimated 21 homes, 2 businesses and numerous community buildings.
