The Council of Yukon First Nations held an Elders and Youth Gathering at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre this morning to provide a briefing for the council's upcoming youth and elections in June.

The Council of Yukon First Nations (CYFN) held an Elders and Youth Gathering at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre this morning to provide a briefing for the council's upcoming youth and elder elections.

CYFN Grand Chief Peter Johnston says the meeting today made sure everything runs smoothly during the elections in June.

"This is the third Youth and Elders Gathering that the CYFN has hosted. This gathering was to review the terms and reference and to set the election rules for the elder and youth representative elections that we will be hosting June 5th here in Whitehorse."

Johnston says many of the CYFN citizens are eligible provided their ages fit within the youth or elder category.

"We defined when the nomination process will open, which will be May 15th and close on May 29th. Any Yukon First Nations citizen that fits within the terms of reference, including an elder 60 years or older and any youth candidate between the ages of 18 and 29 are applicable to sit as the CYFN Executive Elder of the CYFN executive youth."

Approximately 100 people turned up to the event today.
