20 candidates are running for six seats in the upcoming municipal election on October 18th.
Whitehorse council candidates spoke last night at the Gold Rush Inn about Whitehorse municipal issues ranging from affordable housing to accessible transit.
Six seats are up for grabs in October's 18th municipal election and the event started at 6pm.
Relating to affordable housing, Darrell Hookey says that the government should encourage construction of more cost-effective neighborhoods, providing Long Lake as an example.
Pertaining to the same issue, Steve Roddick says a community land trust and co-op housing would benefit lower-income residents in the city.
In terms of accessible transit, Eileen Melnychuk noted she would help push initiatives for easier paying options on local transit, introducing alternatives such as paying via an app on your phone.
The Whitehorse mayoral forum will also be starting tonight at 6pm at the Gold Rush Inn.
