The completion of the Beat the Heat wildland firefighting boot camp is something that brings pride to the participants and a level of relief for the citizens of the territory.
This years book camp was in partnership with; Northern Vision Development, Da Daghay development Corp., Territorial Government, CYFN, the development branches of Carcross/Tagish, Carmacks, Nacho Nyak Dun, Kwanlin Dun, Champagne Aishihik, Vuntut Gwitch'in, Selkirk, the Chief Isaac group of companies and the KCDLP.
There were 65 total trainees, including 35 fresh faces. The physically demanding training took place over 9 days here in Whitehorse.
The effort is to build a fire fighting force that can be ready to serve it's home communities and to export the talented crew where needed
