Bear Attack Claims Life of Mother and Child

    RCMP in Yukon are investigating a deadly bear attack on Einarson Lake, northeast of Mayo.

    The Yukon Coroner's Service has reported that the two lives taken from a bear attack Northeast of Mayo, are the young family of a fur trapper.

    Gjermund Roesholt had been trapping on Einarson Lake lake for 3 months with his family, and yesterday had confronted a charging grizzly bear, whom he was forced to shoot dead.

    Upon returning to his cabin, he found the remains of his wife 37 year-old Valerie Theoret and their 10 month-old child Adele.  They are believed to have been out for a walk before being attacked by the grizzly.

    Mayo RCMP received an emergency spot activation from the emergency response coordination centre at 3:45 pm yesterday.

    Mayo RCMP, Forensic Identification Section, and Yukon Government's Department of the Environment are assisting Yukon Coroner's Service with this continuing investigation.
