The 2019 Indigenous Summer Play Readings officially kick off tonight with the "Born-Again Crow" performance  at 7 pm at the Gwaandak Theatre.

Veronique Lachance , director of the second play reading titled "Neechie-itas" on Thursday night, says the audition turnout for tonights play was impressive to see.

"The play tonight is directed by Leonard Linklater. It has really powerful casting. We're really lucky this year because a lot of people showed up to the auditions. It was an awesome turnout. For tonight's show, we're going to have tickets at the door. I recommend everyone come out to see the show tonight because it's really nice to have more and more Indigenous voices. I think we always promote them more and give them more space."

Performer Gurdeep Pandher says there are many cultural connections that will be seen at both playreadings.

"This show will help bring more and more Indigenous voices, including cultural connections,to the show with my involvement to the stage."

Pandher, a performer on Thursday nights show, is a prominent Yukon-based Bhangra artist and author and also has extensive international dancing experience.

Both Indigenous Summer Play Reading performances will be held at the Gwaandak Theatre, with the second performance at 7pm on Thursday also having  tickets available at the door.
