Lynda Dickson has resigned as chief (Haa Shaa du Hen) of Carcross/Tagish First Nation.

The executive council received her resignation letter last Friday.

Carcoss/Tagish First Nation tells CHONfm that Dickson resigned “due to medical reasons.”

Dickson is a born and raised Yukoner from the Ishkahittaan Clan. She started working for Carcross/Tagish First Nation in their finance department in 2007. She was on the general council from 2009 to 2014 and then she sat as an executive member from 2014 until she was first elected chief in 2019.

Now a byelection will be held to find a replacement. There’s no word yet on when that will be. The First Nation says “it takes time to set up and drop the writ to call for a by-election. Ballots have to go out world wide and then come back.”
