Two Dead and One Injured After Shooting in Faro

RCMP confirmed the details at a news conference this afternoon.

A 42 year old woman and a 73 year old man are dead and another man is critically injured after a shooting that took place in Faro yesterday.

Ralph Bernard Shaw has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, and two counts of aggravated assault.

Yukon RCMP Chief Superintendent Scott Sheppard briefed media on the details at a news conference this afternoon.

“This is a tragic situation for the town of Faro and Yukon as a whole,” Sheppard told the press.

Sheppard says the police responded to report of shots fired and attended a residence on Harper Street where they found a critically injured male. When they arrived, Shaw had already fled the scene. The cops then called for backup and provided first aid. The RCMP then made their way to another residence on Harper Street where a 42 year old woman was unresponsive.

The police then locked down the local school because they say a victim had children.

Soon after, there were reports of shots fired in the Yates Crescent area as well as the Tintina Subdivision. Shaw was taken into custody at 1:55pm without incident or injury. After the arrest a 73 year old man was found dead at a residence on Yates Crescent.

The investigation is ongoing and multiple crime scenes are being held. There is still a major police presence in Faro. BC’s RCMP forensic identification service has been called in to assist. Shepard says the RCMP is limited in what they can say and further information will be provided as appropriate.

Premier Sandy Silver stepped away from the Legislative Assembly to make some remarks.

“Our small communities, as most people in this room know, they’re very very tightly knit and this is absolutely devastating to the community of Faro but also to the territory at large. Our thoughts are with the people of Faro and especially the families of the victims,” said Silver.

Shaw is in custody and will appear in court on November 3.
